Borovets ski resort in Bulgaria, Rila Mountains - Sofia region - Samokov - Borovets


Borovetz boasts of over 45 km of ski runs of various difficulties to suit all tastes and abilities. These are grouped in 3 regions: Sitnyakovo – at the resort footstep, Markoudjik – at around 2700 mt facing the Mousala peak (2925m above sea level) and Yastrebets -3 long down the slope Olympic pistes, that start form the peak and end at the resort allowing 30 or more minutes of continuous, uninterrupted skiing.

The slopes and runs are maintained in perfect condition and are equipped with international markings and multilingual signs.

The Borovetz ski school has international recognition and long-standing traditions with more than 200 ski instructors, all of them fluent in different languages.

Skiing classes come in 5 different levels, from A to E - in groups or individually - 4 hours per day, 6 or 12 days. All course graduates receive skiing certificates.

Borovets has ten ski rental services, situated next to the lift station and around the ski runs. They offer 7000 sets of skiing equipment from world famous producers, as well as toboggans, sledges, etc. Skiers can also leave their own equipment for safekeeping there.

The cabin cableway to the peak of Yastrebets known as GONDOLA is the most imposing one. Its’ capacity is 1200 people per hour and the journey takes 23min with an intermediately station.

Hiking trails may be undertaken from Borovets along marked routes to various sites in Rila and you can reach mount Moussala in 6 hours if you start from Borovets by foot or by less than 2 hours if you take the GONDOLA to the top station and climb from there.

In one day you can visit the peak and return back to Borovetz if you use the GONDOLA, or alternatively you may stay in the chalet for a small fee and enjoy the packed communal kitchen / living area sipping tea or having a warm bean soup – traditional among local tourists.


Toboggans, swimming pools, saunas, fitness centre, billiard, table tennis, bowling, trips with sledges, heli-skiing, etc. are available for your leisure pleasure while in Borovets.

Bulgarian folklore evenings are an exclusive attraction you must not miss. These feature folk music and dances while you sample local Bulgarian specialities and world famous Bulgarian wines

Borovets also offers a larger choice of night-life with its many night clubs, bars and discos, ski carnivals which are real fiestas for the guests of the resort.Borovets offers scores of scenic routes, including many ski-routes, in groups leaded by experience guides.

The organized trips lead to picturesque spots in the Rila Mountain like Seven Rila lakes, peak Maljovitsa, peak Moussala, etc.

A photo safari and a visit to the Bulgarian king’s residence of Bistritsa are also regularly organized.

Various trips to different tourist attractions throughout Bulgaria are offered as well. Trips to Melnik with its unique pyramids and famous wines, to Sofia, Plovdiv and Rila Monastery are among the most interesting ones.


Ski Patrol provides a round-the-clock emergency service. It is organized in four teams fully equipped with all the necessary equipment including helicopter if needed. It is based at the first station of the cable lift and is run by the national mountain rescue association of Bulgaria.

You may wish to buy an individual or group (discount) insurance certificate with it to ensure your and your family members safety and well being while on the slopes.
